Meizu 15 Plus stops by Geekbench with 6GB of RAM and Android 7.0

The Meizu 15 and 15 Plus are relentless when it comes to benchmarks.

First the Meizu 15 Plus revealed its Exynos 8895 chipset on AnTuTu, then the smaller Meizu 15 passed by Geekbench with a Snapdragon chip (either a 660 or 635) and now it's the 15 Plus' first run on Geekbench.

The chipset isn't specified, other than its cores and clock speed (8x1.69GHz) but we have no reason to doubt that it's the same Exynos 8895 that is used in Samsung's 2017 flagship phones.

Just like the Meizu 15 Plus that was tested on AnTuTu, this one also has 6GB of RAM.

The Meizu 15 Plus and Meizu 15 will become official on April 22 alongside the less-leaked Meizu 15 Lite.

Meizu 15 and 15 Plus star in new hands-on images

Meizu is celebrating a big milestone in 2018 - 15 years since the company was founded back in 2003. To properly mark the occasion, it's preparing to launch a couple of new smartphones, aptly named Meizu 15 and Meizu 15 Plus, respectively.

These have been leaking at a steady pace in the past few weeks, and today we get three more hands-on images showing them.

As you can see, the Plus model will be unsurprisingly Plus-sized. For both it and the Meizu 15, the front-facing camera is centered above the screen, while the bottom bezel houses a round Home button. The devices have an all-metal build, and their dual rear cameras are vertically aligned in the upper-middle part. Under them is Meizu's classic ring-shaped LED flash.

The Meizu 15 Plus will allegedly sport a 5.95-inch QHD touchscreen, 12 MP + 20 MP resolution for those rear cameras, a 20 MP selfie snapper, and a 3,430 mAh battery. At the helm we'll see Samsung's Exynos 8895 SoC, paired with 4/6 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of storage depending on which exact variation you buy.

The smaller Meizu 15 comes with a 5.46-inch 1080p display, and might be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660. The RAM/storage options are the same as for its bigger sibling, but the battery capacity takes a hit because of the size constraints - it's 2,940 mAh in the Meizu 15.

A lower-end Meizu 15 Lite may join the two when they get officially outed before the end of this month. Oddly enough, the follow-up Meizu 16 "ultra-flagship" series will apparently come in August, according to Huang Zhang, the company's founder.

Three Meizu 15 phones get their specs confirmed by TENAA

We already knew Meizu is preparing a phone to celebrate the 15-year anniversary of the company. Thanks to the Chinese regulatory TENAA, we now got to see what the Meizu 15 looks like.

We are actually looking a trio of devices - Meizu 15 Lite is the most basic one, Meizu 15 adds dual cameras, and Meizu 15 Plus further completes the package with a bigger display of QHD resolution. All three devices will have a home key/fingerprint scanner on the front, most likely acting as a Super mBack button.

Meizu 15 Lite

The Meizu 15 Lite will be available with a 5.46” IPS LCD with Full HD resolution. The chipset will have octa-core CPU, clocked at 2.2 GHz and coupled with either 3 GB, 4 GB or 6 GB RAM. Storage will also be come in three tiers - 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB.

There is only one camera on the back that comes with 10-LED flash and PDAF. The shooter has a 12 MP sensor with the aperture yet to be unveiled. The selfie snapper will be 20 MP.

The battery is 3,000 mAh, and the Meizu 15 Lite will run Android 7.1.2 Nougat. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth and GPS. The colors available are Matte Black, Brushed Black, and Matte Gold.

The Meizu 15 comes next with a 5.46” AMOLED display of the same Full HD resolution. The chipset is unchanged, but the 3GB RAM/32GB storage version has been dropped and the options here are 4GB/6GB RAM with 64GB/128GB storage.

While the selfie camera is 20 MP like the Lite, the back now has dual setup of 12 MP + 20 MP with PDAF and quad-LED flash. The battery is 2,940 mAh and will power the device that runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Brushed Black, Brushed Gold, Brushed Blue and Ceramic White are the available color options.

Meizu 15 Plus

The most powerful device of all three comes with a larger 5.95” AMOLED screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The chipset has a mighty octa-core CPU with 2.5 GHz speed. It sports the same camera setup as the regular Meizu 15, but the battery capacity has been boosted to 3,430 mAh.

RAM and storage are also copied from the vanilla variant, along with the primary connectivity options like Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n.

Offered in Matte Black, Matte Gold, Brushed Black and White, the Meizu 15 Plus is expected to be the most expensive of them all. We are yet to hear more from Meizu about an official launch.

Meizu E3 goes official with dual camera, amazing price

Meizu E3 was officially announced in China. The phone is jam-packed with hardware but Meizu has managed to keep its price low.

The E3 features a 5.99" IPS LCD screen of 1,080 x 2,160 pixels and runs on the Snapdragon 636 chipset (8x Kryo 260 cores, Adreno 509 GPU). There are 6 gigs of RAM and 64GB or 128GB of expandable storage.

The Meizu E3 packs a dual-camera setup on its back that wouldn't be out of place on a phone with much higher standing. The modules are protected by a piece of sapphire glass and the main shooter has a 12MP Sony IMX362 (1/2.55", 1.4µm) sensor behind f/1.9 lens with Dual-Pixel autofocus. The secondary telecam unit has a 20MP Sony IMX350 (1/2.8", 1.0µm) imager behind f.2/6 lens with PDAF. There is also a dual-tone flash around.

The dual-cam on the back is capable of portrait mode with background blur and promiese up to 2.5x lossless zoom.

There is an 8MP f/2.0 camera at the front for selfies.

The Meizu E3 has its internals wrapped in a metal body, and its fingerprint sensor placed on its right side as it once was on quite a few Sonys. Meizu says the sensor is always on and unlocks the phone in just 0.2 seconds.

Meizu E3 has a 3,300 mAh sealed battery capable of 20W fast charging via a new custom cable and adapter. The company advertises the charging as "cold", and we guess this is a technology similar to the 5V/4A VOOC/Dash Charge.

The E3 runs on Flyme OS 7 with Android 7.1.2 serving as a core beneath the launcher.

Meizu E3 will go on pre-order on March 26 in China, while shipping begins on March 31. The phone will be available in Champagne Gold, Black and Blue colors. The 64GB model is priced at CNY 1,799 ($284), while the 128GB one costs CNY 1,999 ($315).

There is also a limited Meizu E3 J-20 Edition named after the J-20 fighter jet. It costs CNY 2,499 ($395) and has its back made to look a lot like the J-20. It is packed with a custom J-20 case, a memorial card, and a J-20 SIM-eject tool.
